The fifth annual Design Contest is a time of joy for the folks who dig futuristic designs and hot concepts. This time we’re checking out the Peugeot 888, created by Oskar Johansen, a two seat automobile powered by solar energy and shape-shifting.

Peugeot 888 Concept Car is Eco Friendly and Easy to Park

This vehicle switches between a suburban and city mode, by using a hydraulic tilting system and lifting the car (city mode) or lowering it in order to increase the speed (suburban mode).

Each wheel of the Peugeot 888 uses an independent electric motor, based on Li-ion batteries, but you shouldn’t forget the solar energy, harnessed with the aid of photovoltaic cells.

Phoenix Concept Sportscar is an Alternative Energy Fountain

Sergio Loureiro made my day with this concept, the Phoenix “Regeneration Passion”, which was his final project for the MA Vehicle Design Course at the Royal College of Art.

Phoenix Concept Sportscar is an Alternative Energy Fountain

We’re dealing with an electric sportscar that’s based on alternate energy and its regeneration, by using kinetic watches, wind turbines, geothermic energy and even a … “sustainable dance floor” that absorbs the energy from the bouncing of the floor.

This baby can also turn, as it handles the curves as if it were a motorbike, well two bikes actually, plus a central kinetic axis (picture below).

Phoenix Concept Sportscar is an Alternative Energy Fountain

The Phoenix is a concept two-seater that uses a front wind turbine to also generate a bit more energy, while slowing down. Even the suspension system generates energy with the aid of kinetic movement, so you’ll have plenty of electricity to toy with.

In the end, you’ll probably want to know that Sergio Loureiro created this beauty using “the wings of a bat ray” as an inspiration for the design.

Peugeot Seed, a Green Electric Car that Uses Cameras

Seems that most of the Peugeot concept cars I’ve seen lately are eco-friendly, since they use electricity and are powered by solar panels. The Peugeot Seed is no exception, but its most interesting feature is the fact that it doesn’t incorporate windows, but uses cameras to show the driver what’s going on around the car.

The vehicle was designed by Andrew Kim and the Seed is wrapped with one big LCD display, like some other concept we’ve seen a while back. Must say I’m not a huge fan of the shape of this automobile, but hey, beautiful isn’t always useful, right?

Peugeot MoVille Concept, Very Much Like Eve From Wall-E

Seen Pixar’s Wall-E? Well, than you must’ve liked the Eve character, but not as much as Woo-Ram Lee did, the designer of the MoVille concept. You have to admit that the cartoon character and this vehicle have quite a few things in common, specially the cute rounded shape.

Peugeot MoVille Concept, Very Much Like Eve From Wall-E

The MoVille was designed as an entry in a Peugeot design competition and we might just see it go full scale some day, specially if it wins. This automobile is also “green”, as it uses electric propulsion and solar energy, plus it features an auto-pilot mode and it can be driven with the aid of a cellphone.

Add a retractable dashboard with drive-by wireless and dual-sliding window doors to the package and we’ve got a teardrop-shaped vehicle of the future on our hands. Now, can it say “Waall-E”?

Peugeot 360 Concept Car Has Got No Wheels

Everything’s 360 these days, starting from the Xbox, the Colgate toothbrush, to the Yahoo social netwoking and blogging service, so cars couldn’t escape this branding. Enter 360… Designed by Andrei França, this concept vehicle uses spheres instead of wheels, making sure you’ll never have a flat tire and giving you a better control of the automobile.

Peugeot 360 Concept Car Has Got No Wheels

Also, it’s important to mention that the concept car features only three spheres, each powered by an electric motor. They’re all coordinated with the aid of an on-board computer and a system of pulleys. I guess the idea of replacing wheels has got one advantage: better control when parking and backing your car.

Also, talking about 360: what other 360 labelled products do you know?

Mantis Concept Chopper Would Make Orange County Folks Jealous

This is a simple motorcycle concept we’re dealing with, a chopper rather, that would make the Orange County bikers drool. Mantis’ aesthetics look perfect, aggressive and sexy, but what about those hubless wheels? Michael Hansen is the designer of this sweet ride that flows really nice, at least on paper.

Anyone knows where the central piece of the wheels went and if the Mantis concept motorcycle can ride like this?

Ferrari Monza Goes Fast, Features an Autopilot

Forget all of the concept supercars you’ve seen lately, as we’re in for a Ferrari-branded treat. The pics we saw portraying this vehicle make it look like a toy, but what a powerful and expensive contraption it will be! Its designer, Iman Maghsoudi left the complicated task of driving at high speed to the supercar’s computer.

Ferrari Monza Goes Fast, Features an Autopilot

We’re dealing with a Ferrari that allows its driver to sit in a cockpit, just like the one of a Formula 1 car and control the vehicle at lower speeds. However, if you go past 200 km/h or so, the computer takes control and you’ll be back to playing Halo 5 while driving or whatever game will be a hit in the remote future.

Passing to the chassis, this supercar can change shape for better aerodynamics and a reduction of friction, so you won’t take off. The 2 “fins” are used for air circulation and to give the ride a meaner look.

Audi O Concept Car is Green and iPodish

The Audi O concept is far more than meets the eye and you might as well call it “Audi-o”, as the vehicle’s main asset is the sound system. Ondrej Jirec is the designer of this beauty, using the classy and sexy Audi styling, with the grill placed between the headlights and all.

Check out those huge glass windows and glass top, giving the Audio O a fragile, but elegant look. I wonder if all that glass can withstand an uber-loud system and you might notice that in the trunk of the automobile there’s a sort of mini DJ mixing set, or a portable studio if you want.

The concept car also packs Bluetooth and Internet connectivity, a 650 GB HDD and it’s a green vehicle we’re talking about, saving the planet as you mix your tunes.

Peugeot One Concept Car is Green and Stable

Peugeot One is a “green” concept car, designed by Omar Ivan Huerta Cardoso and it aims to change the way people see automobiles in relation with the environment. The vehicle accumulates solar energy with the aid of its windshield, imitating the Photosynthesis process and going easy on Mother Nature, by not releasing dangerous substances in the air.

Peugeot One Concept Car is Green and Stable

This concept car is a single-seater, an urban vehicle that uses a Gyroscope system to generate stability and a pretty nifty suspension system that handles a sudden stop quite well, by cushioning the body of the car.

I have to say that this is quite a long automobile that will be a real pain to park, unless it comes with a foldable mechanism, like the BRB concept car.

Mercedes Benz Silverflow, Uber-Supercar of the Remote Future

Fancy a car made out of liquid metal? How about a Mercedes Benz branded one? Revealed at the LA Auto Show Design Challenge a while back, the Mercedes Benz Silverflow is a real mystery if you’re trying to guess what’s on the hood. What’s important is its metal body, a shapeshifting one.

That’s right, as its designers said, there’s going to be a “flood” of cheap carbon fibre in the 2020s so the alternative must be… new metal. No, not the music, the liquid metal you saw back in Terminator 2. So, we’ll be able to choose the shape of our car, as we ride. How cool is that?
