The 2010 Detroit Motor Show unveils the Audi E-tron Detroit Concept supercar. Unlike the first E-tron model (displayed at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show) which resembled the R8 model, the new E-tron has a slightly different design and it’s believed to be the foundation for the rumored R4.

The Audi supercar gets its power from two electric engines, developing 204 hp, that take the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds. This is possible thanks to the light aluminium body kit, which results in a weight of just 1,350 kgs.

The concept vehicle measures 1.78 meters in width, 3.93 meters in length and 1.22 meters in height, classic proportions of a sports car. You need to know that the top speed for this electric Audi is limited to 124 mph.

Once it is fully charged (a complete charge takes 11 hours), the car will run for 155 miles. The interior design of the E-tron has also been changed in comparison to the first model but these changes are far more subtle. The door panels have been redesigned and also the color is different, but the basic structure has been kept the same.

It’s likely that a version of this coupe will go into serial production in the year 2012 (as the R4) and the production model could be available with either an electric engine or classic internal-combustion.

Designer Edwin Conan brings us another retro inspired supercar: the Bugatti Type 57 Evoluzione concept. This amazing supercar is inspired from the original Bugatti Type 57, dating back from 1930s.

The vehicle is powered by a front mid placed, impressive 8 litre W16 engine (like the Bugatti Veyron). The Type 57 Evoluzione is also eco-friendly, since its customized engine runs on liquid hydrogen, resulting in zero CO2 emissions.

This concept car, like the original Type 57, has a stretched bonnet, smooth curves and a split line which bisects the car down the middle. This Bugatti supercar design is the revival of the classic Type 57, with a touch of modern technology.

In case you’re the nostalgic type, who misses the beginning of the automotive design days, we have a treat for you: the Mercedes Blitzen-Benz design, created by George Yoo. This concept car is inspired by the original Blitzen-Benz model, dating back from 1909, but it brings a modern twist in the mix: a Hygenius hybrid hydrogen engine.

The above-mentioned engine will power four in-wheel electric motors and in case you didn’t know this is a sports car we’re talking about. There’s also a hydrogen storage tank on the side of the vehicle, under the cockpit and a small window that allows the driver to see the level of his fuel.

BlitzenBenz’s exterior case uses intelligent components, that are also adaptable and can be grown, not manufactured (nanotechnology for the win). They provide an organic body structure for the Mercedes concept car and keep the wheel pods intact. The latter car parts will open like flower buds, in order to cool the electric motors inside and there’s also a lighting system (in blue) on board, fuelled by bioluminescent sea creatures.

The Audi Avatar supercar concept is the wet dream of the computer generation, a design created by Edwin Conan (Yi Yuan) and a pretty nifty electric vehicle. Supposedly, this is the supercar of the year 2032, packing a very light and aerodynamic body and being able to go from 0 to 100 km/h in only 2.9 seconds.

Audi Avatar, Electric Supercar of the Year 2032

The maximum speed of the Audi Avatar is 360 km/h and you should also know that this futuristic road racer comes with three bucket seats. What does this concept rely on? Well, it uses a “long range supercharge-ion battery”, that drives four in-wheel electric motors.

We’re wondering if this car is able to stay on the road at its max speed and not take off, but we guess that some aerodynamic feats stop it from flying against the driver’s will.

Anne Forschner struck gold in all of us S.C.A.R.S videogame fans… If you remember the gaming title, it had cars like the one you can see below all over it and they were pitted against each other through races and more. Back to the design, The 24 year old Pforzheim University graduate created this beautiful BMW Lovos concept, a very unusual piece of machinery.

BMW Lovos Concept is Sharp, Looks Like it Could Sting

The supercar looks just like a porcupine and its name stands for “Lifestyle of Voluntary Simplicity”. BMW Lovos is made out of a single fully exchangeable part that recurs 260 times and each of its exterior pieces features a solar photovoltaic cells, probably used to charge the futuristic vehicle.

These exterior pieces are connected via hinges to a substructure of the BMW concept car and they can follow the sun or be used as airbrakes. An electric BMW of the future with a very, very sharp design? Yes, sir!

The BMW hydrogen-powered salt flat racer pictured below was part of the 2008 LA Auto Show Design Challenge. This vehicle is based on the principle of reusing materials, like old oil barrels or barbeque lids. BMW have tried to make this concept car environmentally-friendly and they seem to have succeeded.

This car is sustainable and it uses an unique idea to verify the emissions, either goldfish or canaries, that will get sick unless you’re running clean without polluting Mother Nature.

The wheels you can see in the images are made out of gel-nylon and they can flex as needed. Tires are airless and be re-vulcanized or re-treaded at any time.

We continue the series of futuristic cars from the year 2050 with the Nissan OneOne concept, a blend between personal mobility and a family robot. This vehicle can also be considered the “ultimate pet” and you might want to know that its name is pronounced “wan-wan”, that stands for a dog’s barking in Japanese.

Nissan OneOne Futuristic Car is Also a Family Robot

Nissan OneOne can function without a driver, picking your kid from school, using GPS, picking the dry cleaning, shopping and God knows what else. This concept car is based on a synthetic polymer muscle system, embedded in “legs” and the entire mechanism mimics the human skating on roller blades.

Also, we found out that the futuristic vehicle can change position, depending on the environment, so it’ll recline for better speed, stand up for better visibility and squeeze into tight areas.

It’s very rare that we get to see 2009 concepts lately, so feast your eyes on the Honda Zeppelin design pictured below, made by Myung Jin Jung. The creator of the vehicle is a student at the Hongik University, following the car design course. Zeppelin was the designer’s final year project, as he was required to create a luxury sedan of the future.

Honda Zeppelin Supercar of 2009, Batmobile Meets Citroen GT

Honda Zeppelin looks like a combo between Citroen GT and the newest Batmobile, the one from “The Dark Knight”. Its name (and shape) was inspired by airships, but this is still a luxurious piece of machinery. Notice the asymmetric line running from the hood and along the roofline, till the car’s rear end.

Forget about the standard winshield on this futuristic supercar, that relies on an interior video display, providing much greater field of vision. Honda Zeppelin’s doors are shaped in the gullwing style and inside you’ll find luxury seatings, also inspired by aircrafts. The front seats are swivelling and can be turned to face the rear ones in the “Entertainment Mode”.

The vehicle you can see below is the Audi Nero concept car, designed in 2006 for the Los Angeles Auto Show. The idea behind Audi Nero is the fact that this supercar is the ultimate nightclubbing vehicle from the future.

Audi Nero Concept, Los Angeles Auto Show Material

There’s something very steampunk and noir about this car, making it fit into a post-apocalyptic future. It might be those sinister lines, the elongated shape or the Batmobile resemblances, plus an Audi fan might also notice the covered wheel arches, that are very similar to the ones on the Audi RSQ concept, from the “I, robot” movie.

Would you go clubbing in this ride, let’s say in the year 2030?

We’re once again having a look at cars from the year 2050 and this time it’s a Toyota we’re dealing with. The Toyota Biomobile Mecha concept supercar is powered by pollution, since its skin can absorb the harmful substances in the air and turn them into energy.

There’s a “real time strategic navigation planning system” aboard the Toyota vehicle, basically a 3D scanner of the surrounding environment, that’ll guide the car anywhere you want to go and allow it to adapt to any situation.

Toyota Biomobile Mecha relies on nanotechnology and it’s able to expand and contract, both horizontally and vertically. This is a huge advantage for people who need a compact car when the parking space is tight, but also a slim and aerodynamic ride on the fast roads of the future.
