The vehicle you can see below is the Audi Nero concept car, designed in 2006 for the Los Angeles Auto Show. The idea behind Audi Nero is the fact that this supercar is the ultimate nightclubbing vehicle from the future.

Audi Nero Concept, Los Angeles Auto Show Material

There’s something very steampunk and noir about this car, making it fit into a post-apocalyptic future. It might be those sinister lines, the elongated shape or the Batmobile resemblances, plus an Audi fan might also notice the covered wheel arches, that are very similar to the ones on the Audi RSQ concept, from the “I, robot” movie.

Would you go clubbing in this ride, let’s say in the year 2030?

We’re once again having a look at cars from the year 2050 and this time it’s a Toyota we’re dealing with. The Toyota Biomobile Mecha concept supercar is powered by pollution, since its skin can absorb the harmful substances in the air and turn them into energy.

There’s a “real time strategic navigation planning system” aboard the Toyota vehicle, basically a 3D scanner of the surrounding environment, that’ll guide the car anywhere you want to go and allow it to adapt to any situation.

Toyota Biomobile Mecha relies on nanotechnology and it’s able to expand and contract, both horizontally and vertically. This is a huge advantage for people who need a compact car when the parking space is tight, but also a slim and aerodynamic ride on the fast roads of the future.

Mazda has great plans for the year 2050, or so we think, after having a look at the Mazda Motonari RX concept supercar. Say goodbye to metal vehicles and hello to artificial intelligence, lightweight cars and driver-car symbiosis. Mazda Motonari RX borrows its name from a legendary Japanese warrior, Mori Motonari.

Mazda Motonari RX Concept, Supercar of the Year 2050

The car interfaces with the driver and can be considered an extension of his body, some sort of futuristic luge, handled via armrest controls. These will input the acceleration and direction of the vehicle, that uses an exoskeletal shape-shifting frame, adapting to the driver’s preferences. This supercar is made out of carbon nanotube/shape memory alloy, with a photovoltaic coating on top.

Mazda Motonari RX’s 4 wheels are omnidirectional, so they’re given total freedom (360 degrees of movement), plus there’s also a “haptic skin”, a suit for the driver to get dressed in. Using this suit, he’ll receive electrical muscle stimulation thanks to the car’s AI, that’ll make the rider “feel” the road.

Peugeot Epine was basically a project that was supposed to turn into an environmentally friendly hybrid vehicle, but eventually it turned into a “consumer’s racing car”. Inspired by Formula One cars and motorcycles, Epine features a whale skeleton, as a tribute to Mother Nature. The concept car was created by Daniel Schumpert.

This Peugeot ride relies on the Epine system, with an innovative seating arrangement and the drive-by-wire technology, as far as steering is concerned. The energy source of the vehicle is placed at the back, while the storage area is at the front of the car.

Also, we found out that Epine uses the Michelin Tweel concept airless wheels, with a positive impact on the suspension system. Turns out that the wheel spokes are able to compress and decompress, thanks to the materials they’re made out of, allowing a wide variety of car motions. This futuristic Peugeot measures 4,260 mm (length), 1,882mm (width) and 1153mm (height).

Lamborghini Bike Inspired by Countach and Osmos Wheel

After seeing a  Ferrari bike, everything seems possible now, so a Lamborghini motorcycle is not something too incredible to envision. Flavio Adriani is the designer of the vehicle and we know that the idea was derived from Marcello Gandini, Bertone’s chief designer.

Lamborghini Bike Inspired by Countach and Osmos Wheel

This Lamborghini bike is based on the Countach model and the Osmos wheel and we could say that this is rather a chopper than a regular motorcycle. The riding position is kind of weird though, since the person on the bike would be very far back, practically on the back wheel and barely reaching out to the handle.

Nice aerodynamic element beneath the bike’s fork, I’ll give you that much! It’s so sharp, it looks piercing…

Honda Fuzo Hovercar Departs from the Notion of… “Cars”

August 5th, 2009

We’ve seen more floating cars than wheeled hybrids lately, so maybe it’s a sign that future is nigh, unless Skynet and Terminators have something to say about it. Honda Fuzo is one of these floating vehicles, a “Vertical Take-Off and Landing concept” to be more precise and this work belongs to designer John Mahieddine.

Honda Fuzo Hovercar Departs from the Notion of... Cars

Honda Fuzo relies on 4 high power turbines for horizontal flight and it can reach a speed of 350 mph. You’ll control the strange vehicle via 2 joysticks, for speed, trust and steering, each of them placed on the side of the driver’s seat (on the armrests). The left controller spins the hovercar on its axis, while the one on the right handles the tilt and direction.

Normal in-car pedals are on the floor and you should also know that Fuzo uses a Fly-by-Wire system, based on GPS and stopping cars from hitting each other. This concept Honda’s airbags open inside and outside of the vehicle, for extra protection and the incredible vehicle is made out of carbon fibre, carbon nano tubes and… Kevlar.

Incredible is the word for it!

Nissan Motivity 400C Concept Car, by Tryi Yeh Relies on Magnetic Levitation

Tryi Yeh’s incredible design has the potential of becoming the fastest vehicle on Earth, provided that it turns into a real “car”. Nissan Motivity 400C is a mere concept for now and you should know that it relies on the Maglev engine system, applied to each tire and making the vehicle float.

This hovercraft-like contraption comes with a triangle shape, in order to decrease drag, while the driver seat controls remain classic. In case Maglev doesn’t ring a bell, know that this concept uses the physical properties of magnetic fields generated by superconducting magnets, that can make objects float.

Also, it turns out that if you use the technology to its max potential and in an evacuated tunnel, you might even reach speeds up to 6,400 km/h. Of course, this is pure theory and one that applies to bullet trains on magnetic levitation tracks… We dare to dream, right?

Lamborghini X Concept Supercar, What Reventon Could Have Been…

August 4th, 2009

Emil Baddal didn’t seem to like the Lamborghini Reventon supercar, so the talent Iranian artist created his own view of the vehicle, known as the Lamborghini X Concept. Who needs a complicated branding for such a beautiful concept car?

Lamborghini X Concept Supercar, What Reventon Could Have Been...

The front of the supercar looks great, but I have to say that Lamborghini X is a tad bulky and its wheels are far too big to be practical. Also, the concept is square-ish and it lacks the sensuality and curves that were present (although a little bit) on the latest Lamborghini models.

Since Lambos are usually associated with bulls, I’d have to compare the X with a shark, simply by having a look at its front side. How many horse power would one hide under this beast’s carbon fibre chassis? Would this defeat a Veyron? How about a GTR?

Hybrid H Car Concept Uses Hydrogen and Electricity Plus… Windmills?!

If Batman were to change his ride, the vehicle below would stand a pretty decent chance at replacing the Batmobile. It’s got the looks, the aggressiveness and it’s even modern enough not to pollute the crime-ridden cities. The “H Car” concept was created by Thomas Pastor and can be admired below.

Hybrid H Car Concept Uses Hydrogen and Electricity Plus... Windmills?!

This futuristic car has all the design elements of a sports car, but it’s also quite luxurious. It gets its energy from electric batteries, hydrogen cells and an interesting mechanism: the rotating blades incorporated into the wheels. They act like windmills and generate the extra power needed to make the “H Car” a truly eco ride.

What do you say? Paint it black and call Batman?

Flying Ferrari X-Racer is Wipeout Material, too Futuristic to be Called a “Car”

Are you familiar with the Wipeout console game? The series includes Wipeout 2097 and a title called Wipeout HD, that, if I’m not mistaking was also made for the PlayStation 3 console. Well, the following concept racing vehicle reminds me of the flying racers you could use in the title, only this time it’s a Ferrari we’re talking about.

Flying Ferrari X-Racer is Wipeout Material, too Futuristic to be Called a Car

Designer Vincent Montreuil created the beautiful Flying Ferrari X-Racer concept, although it’s far from being a supercar, since this word will change its definition 50 years from now. The creator of this wonderful Ferrari imagines a future with a new sport, an air vehicle racing with race tracks in the air, basically an upgrade from the current Formula 1.

Could the X-Racer be the future of Ferrari racing cars? Will the Alonsos and Lewis Hamiltons of the future drive such sci-fi racers?

Flying Ferrari X-Racer is Wipeout Material, too Futuristic to be Called a Car

There are even some specifications attached to this project and we learn that the super racer will measure 8 metres in length, 12 in width and 1.56 in height. Ferrari X-Racer’s  speed will be around 2056 km/h and the engine will be “2 Turbostator with Xtrem FireForce”, whatever that means.

Cooling turbines, lateral air intakes and a stabilization reactor complete the specifications list. What do you say, futuristic or viable?
